Disability Action Council and OHCHR Continue to Set Plans for Implementation in 2023

PHNOM PENH: The General Secretariat of Disability Action Council and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Cambodia have had many successful collaborations in the past. In 2023, the two institutions will continue to work together to make more achievements.

On Wednesday afternoon, 15 February 2023, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation and Secretary-General of the Disability Action Council, Em Chanmakara, met with the Deputy Representative of the OHCHR in Cambodia, Benjamin Moro, to discuss cooperation between the two institutions in 2023.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed an action plan for the two institutions in 2023, focused on training courses on international human rights standards and national legal frameworks on the protection of persons with disabilities at two provincial branches of Disability Action Council in Preah Vihear and Kampong Speu.

The next step of the plan is for the two institutions to provide training on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the legal framework, norms and national policies related to the rights of persons with disabilities to lawyers in Cambodia. This includes providing technical support to the Royal Government to prepare and submit a report on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and technical support for the process of drafting a law on the rights of persons with disabilities.

At the same time, the two institutions will also organize a session to share experiences and instructions to a delegation of the Royal Government, which will be engaged in interactive discussions with the Commission on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

In addition, the two institutions will further promote the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities through social media.
